After World War II the Danish State Railways contrary to other railway companies - continued to purchase more steam engines like the N-engine, whereas the danish private railways bought new diesel engines. Not until the 1950's, did the Danish State Railways begin to look for new diesel engines. From 1954 to 1965 104 dieselelectric engines were delivered to the Danish State Railways. They were called MV, MY, and MX. In the period from the delivery in 1954 to 1978 the first four MY-engines covered approximately 21 million kilometres. In 1954 an engine had cost 1,8, million danish kroner (300.000$). Today only 25 MY-engines are still in service with the Danish State Railways. Some of the MX-engines are now in service with danish private railways.

On march 4th 1952 the Danish State Railways made a contract for delivery of 4 MY engines (numbered 1102 - 1104) and a spare engine. They were delivered in 1954 and became so succesful, that the Danish State Railways had another 40 My-engines delivered from 1955 - 1958. At the same time 2 engines numbered 1201 and 1202 were ordered from the danish factory Frichs A/S. They were equipped with a 1700 HP engine from another danish contractor B og W. 1201 and 1202 were only running for a short period of time, since they were constanthy dogged by ill-luck. The were scrapped in 1971. The other MY- and MX engines from Swedish NOHAB are still in service.

MY 1201 and 1202 were in my opinion the most beautiful engines in service with the Danish State Railways. From 1964 - 1965 another 15 My engines 1145 - 59 were purchased. Since the MY- engines were too heavy for some of the railway sections in Denmark, a smaller type of engine was ordered from NOHAB. These were the MX's with 1425 HP, numbered 1001 - 1045.
